Financial aid fraud may cost LPC big bucks

Multiple cases of financial aid fraud committed by students this past summer have Las Positas College financial aid department under federal investigation.

The suspected students, whose names have not been released, applied to LPC online, filed for financial aid online, signed up for classes online, collected their financial aid check and did not attend any classes.

Takers" took me in; that was no doubt due to the sweet eye-candy cast featuring Idris Elba, Tip T. I. Harris, Chris Brown, Mike Ealy, and Hayden Christiansen. The "Takers" is precision bank robbery culminating with slick, slow-motion cinematography of the yet-to-be-caught group of bank robbers with more urban swagger than the Ocean's 11 crew (remake) was a sweet introduction to this heist film.

Last July a major sound company approached Las Positas instructor Mike Rinaldi in regards to the History Channel;'s interest in filming an episode of a new show that they want to shoot soon.

The show would feature a group of 15 artists that would range in different music genres who would each go to college campuses and play shows for students only.

Elections loom for Peralta Board

Three of the Peralta Board of Trustees seven seats will be up for reelection on Tuesday, November 2. With three incumbents running, only one trustee is running unopposed.

In Area 3, two-term incumbent Linda Handy faces a challenge from Monica Tell.

Handy, who served as board president in 2006, defeated the embattled trustee Brenda Knight in 2002, with major support from Peralta's labor unions.
